NewSchool of Architecture and Design Students and Alumni Win Top Awards in Balboa Park Centennial Gateway Competition

Alumni and students from NewSchool of Architecture and Design (NSAD) received top awards from the Balboa Park Centennial Gateway Competition, including the People’s Choice Award, for their design proposals that provide new visions for San Diego’s iconic park. The competition, sponsored by the San Diego Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, attracted a total of 44 submissions from both students and architects from respected firms.

Competition winners were chosen by a jury panel of architects and designers. A separate public vote was held for the People’s Choice Award, which was awarded to NSAD alumni Jeff Taitano. The outside recognition demonstrates the caliber of work being created by NSAD students and alumni through projects that are inspired by and directly relevant to the community around them. Balboa Park is the nation’s largest urban cultural park comprising 15 major museums, performing arts venues, gardens, and the San Diego Zoo.
