AIAS Student Chapter

The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) chapter at NewSchool is a student-run organization interested in enhancing the educational experience for architecture students on campus. AIAS works closely with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the National Architecture Accreditation Board (NAAB) to create exciting opportunities for NewSchool architecture students to become involved with the professional architecture community.

AIAS Annual Events

AIAS plans several events throughout the year with the goal of exposing architecture students to the professional architecture community and giving them opportunities to network and grow as professionals. Events include:

  • Napkin Sketch Auction
  • Faculty Dinner
  • Firm Tours
  • Shadow an Architect

Napkin Sketch Audition

One of the biggest annual events for NewSchool’s AIAS chapter is the Napkin Sketch Auction. Every year, NewSchool’s AIAS chapter invites
well-known architects from around the world to donate a sketch on a napkin. The napkins are then auctioned off to support AIAS.

The auction was inspired by the tradition that architects and designers can receive inspiration and sketch on something as simple as a napkin to communicate their ideas. Over time, these napkins have become pieces of art containing the essence of their projects. The event celebrates this tradition by inviting famous and local architects to submit a sketched napkin to be auctioned. All proceeds go towards funding students to attend national, leadership and professional conferences.
