91% of the 2014 NewSchool of Architecture & Design graduating class were hired less than half a year after graduating, according to data just released by the Career Services Department. Total job placement was 91% of the class, with 86% of the students landing jobs in their field of study within six months of graduation. Total employment percentage excludes those considered waived: Individuals who are unavailable to work due to Medical Condition, Active Military Duty, International Status, Continuing Education, Incarceration, Death or have completed a non-degree granting /stand-alone certificate program.
With so many resources at their fingertips, NewSchool graduating students have the opportunity to set themselves apart from the competition and pursue positions in top companies. Some of the positions filled by the NewSchool 2014 class include jobs at companies such as Gensler, Bechtel and Safdie Rabinez.
“The NewSchool curriculum offers real-work experience throughout the student’s university experience and the development of a portfolio. This helps greatly at the time of graduation,” said Lisa Ganem, Director of Career Services and Alumni Relations at NewSchool. “Even though the job market is in an upward swing, it is still a nationwide challenge for students just out of school to find work, especially in their related field. We invest a lot of time and energy in connecting potential employers with our graduating students, and this year’s job placement percentages are a testament to that commitment.”
The NewSchool Career Services Department is tasked with preparing and equipping students with the right tools and connections to find work in an ever-competitive work environment. In addition to helping students prepare their resumes and portfolios, NewSchool also requires students conduct at least one practice interview with its Career Services Department in order to strengthen their interviewing skills as they search for work around the country and internationally. Dedicated Career Services advisors are also available to students to conduct one-on-one career development sessions prior to graduation and to help them learn networking techniques, proactive analysis of key markets, and follow-up approaches.
