Hazing Prevention at NewSchool 

NewSchool of Architecture & Design is committed to fostering a safe and respectful community. In compliance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act of 2024 and California state law, we strictly prohibit all forms of hazing by students, student organizations, and campus groups. 

Education & Prevention 

All students, faculty, and staff receive ongoing education about hazing.Training is included in student orientation, student organization leadership workshops, and staff development programming. 


What Is Hazing?
 

Hazing includes any intentional, knowing, or reckless act, whether or not the person agrees to participate, that:  Is connected to joining, affiliating with, or maintaining membership in a group, club, or organization.Causes or could cause physical injury, emotional distress, mental harm, intimidation, or personal degradation 

Examples of Hazing

  • Forced alcohol or drug use 
  • Physical abuse or coercive physical activity 
  • Public humiliation or verbal abuse 
  • Deprivation of sleep or food 
  • Illegal, dangerous, or degrading activities 

Training topics include:

  • How to recognize hazing 
  • How to intervene safely 
  • Your rights and responsibilities 
  • Reporting procedures

Reporting Hazing

We take all reports seriously. Anonymous reports are allowed. We will protect your identity to the greatest extent possible. Retaliation is prohibited.

Policies and Resources

Transparency Report 

To maintain accountability, NewSchool publishes a Campus Hazing Transparency Report twice a year. This report includes: 

  • – Student organizations found responsible for hazing 
  • – A general description of each incident 
  • – Dates of investigation and resolution 
  • – Disciplinary actions taken

 

Transparency reports will be retained and publicly accessible for at least five years from the publication date.

No hazing violations to report for 2025 with a report published 11/06/2025
