NewSchool Hosts Global Event

NewSchool of Architecture & Design announces its selection as the West Coast venue for World Information Architecture Day (WIAD) 2015, a one- day event that happens simultaneously across the globe focused on improving how digital technologies intersect with everyday life. NewSchool will join the network of more than 24 countries who enlist the brightest and most forward-thinking leaders in design, architecture and digital arts for 24-hours of ingenuity on Saturday, Feb., 21. WIAD worldwide participants are tasked with resolving a real problem in the host city.

WIAD 2015 at NewSchool of Architecture & Design includes a series of lectures followed by a problem-solving workshop. The morning will feature a keynote speaker and three lectures exploring the subject of “Architecting Happiness” from three diverse perspectives: urban spaces (architecture), products and service experiences (design), and digital media (digital arts). In the afternoon, the conference will break off into smaller groups for workshops to solve a problem local to San Diego.

NewSchool is an optimal location for WIAD 2015 because of its legacy in collaborating with design schools from around the world. The event aligns with NewSchool’s commitment to inspiring students to approach architecture and design through the prism of the human experience applying an innovative, fresh perspective on the subject of information architecture.

WIAD is led by the Information Architecture Institute (IAI), a non-profit organization that empowers local communities to shape the global practice of information architecture – the art and science of organizing, structuring and labeling content, such as websites, intranets, online communities and software, effectively.
