Lecture Series | Rodrigo Marván

Rodrigo Marván: CON TIEMPO

NewSchool is pleased to announce a lecture by Rodrigo Marván. This event is free and open to all NewSchool students, faculty, alumni, staff, and the general public.

About the Lecturer:

Since the beginning, Marván Arquitectos founded in 2000 by Architect Francisco Marván and his son, Architect Rodrigo Marván, started with big projects such as the competition-winning entry of the new Natural History Museum in Tamaulipas, México, Tamux.

Marván Arquitectos is influenced by the Mexican modernism of Augusto H. Alvarez, Luis Barragan, and Teodoro González de León, and looks up to Louis Kahn as an important international influence.

The firm always proposes contemporary architecture and has explored a variety of materials including concrete and glass. They have worked on a range of projects including single housing, corporate buildings, and civic and public spaces. In 2011, they received First Place CEMEX Building Award for a contemporary intervention of a seventeen-century building, which is one of the most prestigious architecture awards in Mexico.

Nowadays, Marván Arquitectos is developing a wide range of projects including mixed-use, housing and public space master plans, and residential projects, some of them created with an architect as developer approach.

Marván Arquitectos has participated in many international competitions such as the Arts City in Queretaro developed in conjunction with PEI Partnerships. Their recent collaboration with Lamela Arquitectos and Lam Arquitectos led them to become finalists in the New Cathedral of Queretaro competition.

Rodrigo Marván has a special passion for teaching which has led him to collaborate with different academic institutions for more than a decade. For five years he and architect Jorge Ozorno from San Diego taught an interdisciplinary workshop “Architect as Developer” at ITESM Querétaro. Currently, Marván is the head of an architecture design workshop in collaboration with SOM of Chicago at ITESM Querétaro.
