Neuroscience for Architecture Colloquium Series featuring Alessandro Gattara | Architectural Empathy: Embodied Simulation in Office Interiors

Focusing on the relationship between buildings and their users, Dr. Gattara will describe the empathic response to architectural settings and frame the notion of embodied simulation and its implications for design through explanations (and some reservations) of research brought forward at the University of Parma from the varied disciplines of architecture and cognitive neuroscience.

About the Lecturer | Alessandro Gattara, M.Arch, Ph.D.
Alessandro Gattara has practiced in New York and in Italy, where he now runs with Arch. Ph.D. Lucio Serpagli the design firm AAA office. He pursued his doctoral degree in architecture at the University of Parma with Vittorio Gallese, with whom he contributed to the book Mind in Architecture. He is the Italian translator of Harry Mallgrave’s Architecture and Embodiment. Since 2016, with Sarah Robinson and Davide Ruzzon, he has been working on Intertwining, an interdisciplinary journal dedicated to understanding the experience and making of architecture. In 2017/2018 he has been lecturing at University of Parma, Politecnico di Milano, and the Advanced Master “Neuroscience Applied to Architectural Design” at Iuav in Venice.
