Student Team Finalists in Sukkah Design Competition

A NewSchool student team has been selected as a finalist in the 2014 Sukkah Design Competition. The designers were asked to present a modern take on a Sukkah; an ancient temporary structure often used during festivals. The students took inspiration from the unique shape of Pringles chips to create three harmonious panels that resemble elegant petals.

The use of non-traditional materials made the design a fan favorite. “Humbleness of the materials, waterproof cardboard tubes, goes back to the original shelter in using what they had available,” comments Sukkah judge, Jessica Lee Vences. “The lightness of the structure contributes to the temporary feeling of the Sukkah.”

The students have been given a $2,500 build stipend and will be constructing the design over a 24 hour time period. The winner will be announced on October 12th.
