Tutoring

Several types of tutoring are available for students through The Center at NewSchool. Faculty members offer one-on-one and group tutoring in a variety of subjects. Peer tutoring is also available. Tutoring sessions can be scheduled in advance, but walk-in appointments will be accommodated whenever possible. The Center also runs the Supplemental Instruction Tutoring Program, which embeds tutors in targeted classes each term.

One-on-One Workshops & Skill Building

Whether you need help with reading, knowing how to approach a professor, productivity tips, or building other academic skills, The Center staff can meet with you individually to help you develop the tools you need to succeed at NewSchool.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Tutoring

SI tutoring targets courses that are typically challenging for students. A tutor is embedded in the course and attends all class sessions, sometimes assisting during class time. Outside of class, the tutor holds interactive SI sessions for class members in which participants develop strategies for learning the material, review concepts, ask questions and help each other as a learning community. Research shows that students who participate in these sessions do better in the course. Keep an eye out, an SI session may be coming to one of your classes soon!
