Mitra Kanaani, D.Arch, AIA, is a professor of design, research, and tectonics at NewSchool and is currently the Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL) Coordinator. The IPAL program is an accelerated degree program which will allow students to complete architectural license requirements for licensure while earning their graduate architecture degree. NewSchool is proud to be one of the first 14 schools in the nation to be accepted by the National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB) to participate in the Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL) program. In addition, NewSchool is one of only two institutions in California to be approved to offer IPAL at the graduate level.
Mitra is a practicing architect and a professional member of the ICC. She has been the recipient of a multitude of awards at the local, state and national levels. She has been a two-time winner of the Excellence in Education Teaching Award, and the prestigious Academy of Emerging Professionals of the AIA California Council in 2015. Mitra’s recent major publications: Routledge Companion of Architecture Design and Practice was released in November 2015. She has been involved in various design projects for San Diego Symphony’s Centennial Celebration.
