NewSchool’s Career Services team supports students in their architecture, design, and construction management career pathways from the moment they enroll and continues to provide guidance well beyond graduation. We take a holistic approach to career development, partnering with students to create personalized career plans and goals that equip them for long‑term professional success.

Access to Career and Professional Development

Prior to participating in formal recruitment activities, students receive coaching on professional readiness. Resume and portfolio review or approval is required for employer interviews, ensuring consistent preparation and positive employer engagement.

Employer and Alumni Engagement

Career development for architecture students is supported through sustained employer and alumni engagement.

  • Architecture employers participate in career fairs, portfolio reviews, classroom presentations, and student exhibitions

  • Employer surveys provide verifiable feedback on graduate preparedness, including design thinking, technical proficiency, communication skills, project coordination, professionalism, and adaptability

NewSchool has re-established an Architecture, Design, and Construction-focused Alumni Board of Directors, representing multiple graduation years and practice areas. The Board collaborates with Career Services to support mentorship initiatives, employer outreach, alumni recruitment activity, and networking opportunities for current architecture students.

Internship and Employment Outcomes

Job placement within six months of graduation is a clearly articulated institutional outcome and a central measure of success for the Architecture Program.

Recent verified employment outcomes for architecture graduates demonstrate strong results:

Architecture (Undergraduate and Graduate combined): approximately 89–90% placement within six months of graduation, reflecting continued improvement year over year

Placement outcomes are tracked longitudinally and verified using multiple confirmation methods, including employer verification, graduate documentation, written communication, and professional profile review. Consistent standards are applied to ensure accuracy, transparency, and credibility in public reporting.

At a recent architecture career fair, participating firms reported numerous open positions, including full-time roles, part-time opportunities, and internships available to architecture students and recent graduates.

Assessment and Continuous Improvement

Career Services contributes directly to continuous improvement within the Architecture Program. Data gathered through employer surveys, alumni engagement, exit interviews, and placement tracking are reviewed and formally shared with the architecture program leadership.

This evidence informs:

  • Curriculum refinement and professional skills emphasis
  • Architecture-specific career programming priorities
  • Employer outreach and partnership development
  • Student preparation for evolving professional expectations

Exit interviews with graduating architecture students provide additional insight into career readiness and service effectiveness, resulting in documented improvements to programming, employer engagement, and student support.

Licensure and Long-Term Career Planning

Career Services supports architecture students beyond initial employment, with a deliberate focus on long-term professional growth and licensure.

Advising includes:

  • Architectural Experience Program (AXP) planning and tracking
  • Integration with NewSchool’s Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL)
  • Guidance on Architecture Registration Examination (ARE) preparation strategies
