Alley Rounds 2019 was a night to remember! Hosted by the NewSchool Alumni Board in conjunction with Career Services, this event was attended by San Diego’s design industry, NewSchool students, as well as alumni. Spectators witnessed three cross-disciplinary discussions where some of San Diego’s most well-spoken designers defended their viewpoints.

Round 1: The Housing Crisis Whose Fault Is It | Presented from the architectural perspective of Doug Austin and Frank Wolden of AVRP Skyport Inc., this discussion brought up several issues regarding housing styles, housing locations, the cost of housing, and how so many people in San Diego are priced out of the market.

Round 2: Pros & Cons of Designing in San Diego | This discussion by graphic designers Ron Miriello and Steve Conover centered around five questions about design in our communities and the need for more cross connections between industries, neighborhoods, and border issues.

Round 3: Untitled | George Welch and Steve Matley looked at the differences in career paths between an architect, construction manager, and developer. Which one is the best path to financial security?
