Domus Academy in Italy

Domus Academy was founded in Milan in 1982 as the first postgraduate design school in Italy and as an open project focusing on the Italian Design and Fashion experience. Throughout the years, Domus Academy has also focused on its educational component as a place for postgraduate education and research lab investigating innovation and design topics.Since its founding, the institution has received a number of recognitions:

  • In 2012, 2013 and 2014 Domus Academy was selected by Frame Magazine and included in the Masterclass Frame Guide to the 30 World’s Leading Graduate Design, Architecture, Interior Design and Fashion Schools, as well as by Domus Magazine as one of Europe’s Top 100 schools of Architecture and Design
  • Named for the third time as one of the World’s Top 30 Best Design Schools by Bloomberg Business Week in 2009
  • In 1994, received the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award, the oldest and most influential international design award

In December 2009 Domus Academy joined the Laureate International Universities Network, an international network that includes more than 80 accredited campus-based and online universities in 29 countries throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. NewSchool of Architecture & Design, as a partner in that global network, has become a sister school to Domus Academy.

Through this relationship, the two institutions have worked together to establish the Domus Academy School of Design at NewSchool of Architecture & Design.
