NewSchool Lecture Series featuring Josemaría de Churtichaga, CHURTICHAGA + QUADRA-SALCEDO Architects
“Dear Student. if you are struggling in the Design Studio….welcome to this lecture! Architecture education, and specially Design Studios in North America are too often focused on the object, and ultimately, the isolated form is the central and desirable output for architecture… But what if we reject form as the central focus for design? Can we design an atmosphere and not a form? Are my senses construction materials? Can fear be a design tool? Can ungravity become a structure? Yes, form is a wasteland if not driven by other (more powerful) forces. Come!” – Josemaría de Churtichaga

At CHURTICHAGA+QUADRA-SALCEDO, “we make possible your special spatial empathic human happy disruptive thoughtful impossible exciting thrilling dreaming emotional deep light airy experiential atmospheres….we are an attitude!” We are a small office and we want to remain small. We deliberately reject specialization, since we believe on “transfusions” between all the creative problems, independently of its nature and climbs. We defend architecture as a sensorial and an experiential interface.
Churtichaga has taught in several institutions in USA, UK, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, India, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Mexico and Cuba.
