Graduate Admissions

NewSchool offers a variety of graduate degrees in the fields of architecture and construction management. Students interested in applying for our graduate degree programs should complete the general application requirements found on our How to Apply page, as well as the specific requirements for graduate students and their program of interest.

General Graduate Admissions Requirements

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Transcript submission with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.7 is required. If your GPA does not meet the requirement, contact your Enrollment Specialist to discuss appeals options.
  • GRE or GMAT test scores are recommended but not required.
  • A portfolio submission may be required. Click here to visit our Portfolio Requirements page to see if your program requires a portfolio submission.
  • Complete the general application requirements outlined on the How to Apply page.

Program Specific Admissions Requirements

Master of Architecture 4+3

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in any field.
  • Proof of completion of prerequisite courses or their equivalent. Click here for a full list of Master of Architecture 4+3 prerequisites.
  • Portfolio submission is strongly recommended.

Master of Architecture 4+2

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree must be in architecture or a related field.
  • Proof of completion of prerequisite courses or their equivalent. Click here for a full list of Master of Architecture 4+2 prerequisites.
  • Portfolio submission is required.

Master of Architectural Studies 5+1

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree must be in a NAAB accredited architecture program.
  • Portfolio submission is required.

Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL) Tracks

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 is required, however, a GPA of 3.0 is expected of students applying for this program.
  • Portfolio submission is required. A professional portfolio is required for those who have already established AXP (Internship) status with NCARB. Information on the fulfillment of the number of hours per NCARB categories of AXP must be included.
  • IPAL 4+2: There are additional portfolio requirements for candidates seeking advanced placement in the IPAL Program. The format of the portfolio is similar to the portfolio format for graduate applicants, however, the portfolio for the IPAL 4+2 applicant must specifically include a progression of maturity in design projects, manifesting appreciation of the design process, technical skills, constructability and representational techniques.
  • IPAL 4+2 and 4+3: At least two letters of recommendation attesting to the candidate’s character, work ethic, and professionalism, preferably from current/former employers, professors, or supervisors.

Master of Construction Management

  • Submission of a resume or CV listing educational and professional experience.
