Guest Lecturer, Domus Academy Milan
About: Gianandrea Barreca is an architect and town planner. He has developed several projects in Italy and abroad. He has received prestigious awards including the ‘International Highrise Award 2014’ for the project Vertical Forest and the Green Building Italy prize for the project Siemens Headquarters in Milan in 2010. He won the ideas competition ‘Liquid Landscapes’ for the design of the Emilian stretch of the River Po in 2008. He is one of the founding members of Gruppo A12, with whom he organizes and conducts seminars, research projects, exhibitions and installations on contemporary urban conditions, focusing on the relationships between urban context and public art.
Barreca teaches at several Italian and international universities and institutes including: since 2004 the Domus Academy and since 2009 the Faculty of Civil Engineering-Architecture of Genoa. He has been a visiting professor at Italian and international institutions and research centers including the KSU – Kent State University of Florence, the CSU California State University of Florence, the SUF – Syracuse University of Florence and the i2a – International
Institute of Architecture of Vico Morcote.
He has published articles on The Plan, Corriere della Sera, Elementi. In 2012 he has published ‘Barreca & La Varra. Questioni di Facciata – A Matter of Façade’, by Skira. He is editor of several publications that collect works and research carried out with Domus Academy, such as: ‘Canton Ticino: territory of a new modernity ‘(currently in its third edition).
