Elena Pacenti, Director of the Domus Academy School of Design at NewSchool of Architecture and Design (San Diego, California, USA)

Elena Pacenti is the director of the recently created Domus Academy School of Design at NewSchool. Pacenti comes from Domus Academy in Milan, Italy, which is one of the top-ranked design schools in the world. She will lead the development of new global design education programs, such as NewSchool’s Bachelor of Interior Design, that prepare students for careers in international design.

Pacenti previously directed the Design School at Domus Academy in Italy, and she brings the Domus Academy emphasis on advanced design methodologies for anticipating needs and trends in a continuously evolving society. The academy has received recognition from around the world, including being nominated three times by Businessweek magazine as one of the best design schools in the world. The academy also received the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award for the quality of its academic and research approaches, and it was included in the 2012 publication of Masterclass: Product Design: Guide to the World’s Leading Graduate Schools from Frame Publishers.

Pacenti brings to her new position both professional and academic expertise in design-related fields. She was director of the Domus Academy Research Center from 2002 through 2009, where she oversaw the development and coordination of design innovation research projects for the European Union and for government and private groups in Italy. In 2011, she established the Master in Service and Experience Design program at Domus Academy. Pacenti has an undergraduate degree in architecture and a Ph.D. in industrial design, both from the Politecnico di Milano. Throughout her career, she has focused on research and application of theory and practice in the areas of service and product design.

Fernando G. Alberti is the Director of the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Competitiveness at Università Cattaneo LIUC, where he is tenured professor and coordinator of the strategy and entrepreneurship area. Since 2010 he is affiliated to the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness at Harvard Business School, chaired by Prof. Michael Porter. Strategic advisor to firms and institutions, he acted as Industrial Strategist for UNIDO and the World Bank. He authored more than 100 scientific publications and his Italian blog on the strategy of small and medium sized enterprises persistently scores first in Google.

Subject Matter Expert: Damon Pittman, Domus Academy (Milan, Italy)

Damon Pittman was born in Washington D.C., and has worked in sales and marketing in such cities as Amsterdam, London, New York, Paris, and Milan for over 20 years. With a degree in Clothing, Textiles, and Fashion Design he has always been intrigued with everything related to the fashion industry (from the branding standpoint, to the design studios, to the retail outlets, and the best way to market such goods). His professional work experience includes working in Retail Management for such companies as Coach Leatherware and Polo Ralph Lauren. Since 2009 he has worked at NABA and Domus Academy leading courses in fashion marketing.
