What is Compostela? The Compostela Study-Abroad Summer Program is from July 2-23, 2019 in Santiago de Compostela, Spain in the region of Galicia. Financial Aid can be used for the program.
Who Can Apply? Undergraduate students in their 3rd–5th year, in architecture or construction management, and Graduate students (including IPAL students) in any year, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, are eligible to apply. Students will receive 6 credits for NewSchool. If you are receiving financial aid, you may also use aid for this 3-week summer program.
Graduate and Undergraduate NewSchool students receive 6 credits for Compostela
Activities: The Summer Program includes tours in Spain, materials and sketching workshops, where you learn to work with granite and iron from local craftsmen, interdisciplinary lectures in English on landscape, architecture, anthropology, sociology, and history, music concerts in city plazas, local cuisine, sailing/beach trips, and collaboration on real projects for Santiago de Compostela, in architecture and urban design, with students from around the world. You may travel before or after the program, since Compostela is not far from other important European cities. Complete the Compostela project in August, back home or anywhere in the world, and submit for 6 credits.
Students: Compostela students come from India, China, Russia, Spain, and the U.S.
Professors: NewSchool students will work with Professors from Galicia and New York. Professors who have collaborated in past summers: Juhani Pallasmaa, William JR Curtis, Alvaro Siza, Manuel Gallego.
Expenses: Housing for all 21 days is just $450, and meals are inexpensive. Air tickets via London are $620-680 round trip (subject to change). Program fee $450. Some art supplies are provided for you. Free up your schedule next year w/6 credits.
