NewSchool of Architecture & Design Hosts San Diego Gam3rCon 2016 Through Sunday

San Diego CA, July 22, 2016 – NewSchool of Architecture & Design (NewSchool) will serve as the host venue and title sponsor of Gam3rcon, the premier gaming convention in San Diego for gamers, by gamers. The 7th annual convention, which kicked off on July 21 and runs through Sunday, July 24, is an affordable, family-friendly event celebrating game play and the gaming culture and showcases cutting-edge trends and technology in the digital gaming industry. Taking place during San Diego Comic-Con International, Gam3rCon will feature two buildings of gaming entertainment, including a Video Game Arena, Tabletop Gaming Lounge, gaming-themed artwork, live theater and block parties.

During the five day convention, popular games such as Moral Kombat, Halo 4, Mario Kart, Kubb: Viking Chess and Super Smash Bros. are some that will be on display for attendees to participate in.

Additionally, NewSchool faculty will lead and contribute to the following presentations:

Presenter: George Rothrock

About George: George Rothrock has been a creative professional for 19 years. He has filled art, production, design, brand, publishing and executive roles at Sony Computer Entertainment, Redzone Interactive, Qualcomm’s FLO TV and Playdek – and currently serves as a faculty member at NewSchool of Architecture & Design. George entered the video game industry as an artist and rose through senior producer, designer and business director at an independent publisher. A veteran of successful startups, he has been a part of small to medium team development and execution for most of his career. With credit in 18 shipped video games and several expansions, he is passionate about gaming and entertainment.

About Mark: Dr. Mark Ollila is GM Innovation and New Products at Verve Mobile, the leader in mobile location based marketing. Previous to this Mark held senior positions at Nokia, heading up games publishing, launching various new mobile game formats and award winning experiences, as well as been founding chair of Meqon Research AB (the physics middleware technology absorbed by NVIDIA). He is actively involved in the research and startup community and has been an active contributor to New School of Architecture and Design through his expertise in games.
