Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL) Coordinator
Dr. Mitra Kanaani is a professor of design, research and tectonics. She is currently the Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL) Coordinator of NewSchool. The IPAL program is a new, accelerated program which will allow students to pursue architectural licensure upon graduation. NewSchool is proud to be one of only 14 schools in the nation to be accepted by the National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB) to participate in the Integrated Path to Architectural Licensure (IPAL). In addition, NewSchool is one of only two institutions in California to be approved to offer IPAL at the graduate level.
Mitra is a practicing architect and a professional member of the ICC. She has been the recipient of a multitude of awards at the local, state and national levels. She has been a two-time winner of the Excellence in Education Teaching Award, and the prestigious Academy of Emerging Professionals of the AIA California Council in 2015. Mitra’s recent major publications: Routledge Companion of Architecture Design and Practice was released in November 2015. She has been involved in various design projects for San Diego Symphony’s Centennial Celebration.
