Lecture Series: Where Is Design Going? by Dario Miticocchio
Why do we Design? What’s the end game? What are the effects, sometimes unintentional, of our work?
The world as we know it is changing fast, and Design disciplines are heavily involved in this change. More and more industries are discovering how powerful their contributions can be. As a result, Design itself is going through some significant transformation. It’s exciting, it’s intense, it’s powerful, but is it good? It’s tough to assess where a storm is going when you’re right in the middle of it. How do we answer a question like that? Based on what can we decide if this change is good? My goal is to draw from my diverse (some would say “erratic”) experience, both on the job and off, to offer some food for thought on this topic, a (partial) look at how the world of Design has evolved in the past few decades, and some speculations about where it could (and should) go next.
