Design and Teaching Philosophies: When Debbie Phillips is not in the classroom, she is most likely connecting a student to a prospective employer for possible internships, job shadowing, part-time or full-time employment. Her greatest passion is investing in her students in order for them to get their “career of choice.”

Education: Debbie Phillips completed her Ph.D. from Georgia Tech, where her research focused on resident satisfaction and employee engagement as she developed an Employee Engagement Model for the Multi-Housing Industry. Debbie also holds a Master of Science in Housing and Consumer Economics, with an emphasis in Seniors Housing, and a Bachelor of Science in Consumer Journalism, both from the University of Georgia.

Honorary Degrees/Awards/Memberships: She was named Georgia’s 2012 Certified Property Manager (CPM) of the year by the Institute of Real Estate Management’s (IREM) and just recently received the 2013 Outstanding Educator Award by the National Apartment Association Education Institute. Phillips was also recognized as one of the top 75 professional women changing the face of real estate in 2013 by the Institute of Real Estate Management. She is also involved in more than 20 industry organizations and serves in advisory roles as a subject matter expert.

Additional Information: Debbie Phillips is a real estate professional with more than 25 years of experience. Her multi-faceted career includes creating world-class mixed-use communities ranging from workforce housing to luxury high rise residential towers. Among her most noted accomplishments included a branding campaign and product launch for active adult retirement communities throughout the United States. In addition to her private consulting and instruction at NewSchool, Phillips also has a dual appointment as an adjunct faculty member at both The University of Georgia and Georgia Institute of Technology.
