Don Mirkovich, NCARB, CCCA, CDT
Professor, Graduate Architecture
LinkedIn Profile: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/don-mirkovich/a/950/858
Research Interests: Sustainable design, day lighting, professional practice, project management
Design and Teaching Philosophies: As an educator and practitioner, I promote a school culture that nurtures critical-thinking in students who embrace the challenge to synthesize theory and tectonics as a comprehensive design experience. Both theory and tectonics must be recognized and evident in the design discussion as critical synergistic forces impacting the design process and decision making, with neither assuming a position of more importance than the other.
Education: Don Mirkovich earned his Master of Architecture from Arizona State University in 1977 and his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Washington in 1967.
Honorary Degrees/Awards/Memberships: Professor Emeritus, School of Architecture and Construction Management, Washington State University; National Council of Architectural Registration Boards certification; Construction Specification Institute certification as a Certified Construction Contract Administrator and a Construction Documents Technologist; architectural licenses registered in the states of Washington and Arizona. Other participation includes numerous school and university planning committees as well as previous appointment to several national committees sponsored by the American Institute of Architects, contributing to the policy making of national energy, practice, education and development programs. Mirkovich is the co-author of Energy Design for Architects, through support from the U.S. Department of Energy and the AIA Foundation of the American Institute of Architects
Additional Info: Mirkovich is the president of Mirkovich & Associates INC of San Diego, a project management consulting firm that offers services to maximize project success and mediate project claims. Mirkovich & Associates provides specialized services in the areas of project representation, contract administration, construction observation, and claims management. The firm’s goal is to guard clients against conflicts by representing their interests through and after the building process. Services include project feasibility studies, programming, architect selection, project agreements, payment approvals, site observation, and professional reviews. In many cases these specialized services address project maintenance, preventing serious loss of time, effort, and finance. In the event that mediation becomes an issue, claim management packages, professional reviews, and expert witness services are also offered.
