ANNOUNCING A NEW DEGREE: BA IN DESIGN STUDIES

Design is a way to innovate and to drive results by providing creative responses to business challenges.This is why design has become important to all types of businesses that rely on innovation and new ideas to fuel their growth and success. NewSchool of Architecture & Design’s Bachelor of Arts in Design Studies offers students a wide and articulated understanding of design and prepares them for a wider range of careers related to design. Through study of design foundations, theories and practice, research methods and user studies, human-centric design and strategic thinking, as well as principles of business, management, marketing and entrepreneurship, students learn how to leverage, exploit and manage the innovative value design.

FOCUSING ON REAL WORLD PROJECTS AND GAINING EXPERIENCE ACROSS MULTIPLE DISCIPLINES WITH OUR DEGREE PROGRAM

If you are high school student interested in launching a career as design expert, our BA in Design Studies will prepare you to pursue your goals. Our program focuses on working on real world projects with California companies and a unique opportunity to gain experience across multiple design disciplines.

During year 1 of our design studies degree course, students build their foundation through courses in design foundation, design methodologies, design studio and innovation. During year 2, students have an opportunity to choose design studios from interior architecture, product design and media design, working on real world projects with innovative companies in Southern California. During year 3 and 4, students focus on design strategy and management through design strategy exercises which are marketing,communications and business related case studies that are explored through design thinking. Some examples of design strategy exercises include product positioning, branding, service design, social innovation and sustainable products and services. During year 4, students will also complete a capstone project.
